Our titles

After analysing other action trailer titles we have new ideas for ours. Our titles will be black screen titles with probably white/silver font as this seems to be the most effective titles used in action trailers. Our text will also be in capitals as this will make it look more proffessional and is more effective. We will probably not have as many titles as films like the Dark Knight Rises and The Expendables do as our trailer will be more like Taken in the way that the voice over from the phone call will set the scene rather than the titles. However, we will use the fades in and outs for the titles as it makes them seem more dramatic to the audience indicating the action genre.

Action trailer titles

                                              The Dark Knight Rises

The titles are all black titles with white/silver font which makes them stand out and grabs the audiences attention, it is also written in capitals which further keeps the audiences attention. However, the actual name of the film is on a different coloured screen with black font, as this is different to the other titles it stands out as being different and is effective in the name of the film being remembered by the audience. The font used is Helvetica Neue Black, this is an effective font as it is clear and easy to read, it is also associated with the Batman films as it was used in 'Batman Begins' and 'The Dark Knight.' This film puts the time of release at the beginning and the end of the trailer ensuring the audience remembers the release time. This trailers titles are shown slowly throughout which is effective in building tension and keeping the audiences attention.

Taken 2

There are not many titles in the trailer for Taken 2, it is white font on a black background so they do stand out. They also fade out which makes the trailer more dramatic. However, these titles aren't particularly effective as there are very long gaps inbetween the 4. The text used doesn't attract the audiences attention and by having only one actors name as a title it doesn't really fit in with the trailer. However, by not having many titles it keeps the audiences attention on the action rather than what is written on the screen. We may try to recreate something similar to the last title as this is common in all trailers so would make ours look realistic.

The Amazing Spiderman

The titles for the Amazing Spiderman are similar to the Dark Knight Rises in the way that they draw the audience in by establishing the context. This is effective as it keeps the audiences attention and gives them enough information for them to want to see the film. The titles are different to action films as they are on a silver background rather than a black one, it has black writing, however some titles have a black and silver background with white writing. All the writing is in capital letters making them stand out, the differences in titles keeps the audiences attention. They are also fast paced with lots of different effects which indicates the action genre. The logo associated with spiderman is shown at the end on a black screen which allows people to remember the film. By having the release date near the end of the trailer allows the audience to remember the date. However, the title of the film is not shown until right at the end and is not even given its own title which doesn't allow the audience too see the name of the film clearly and make them remember it, which is not so effective.

Stolen

This trailer has very few titles throughout, it follows the conventions of dark backgrounds with white/silver writing which catches the audiences attention. It names an actor which would be well known among the audience to keep attention and encourage people to go and see the film. The last title is a different design as there is an outer background to the font which highlights it as it is different to the previous titles. These 3 titles are not shown until near the end of the trailer which is effective in keeping the audience watching as they want to know the name of the film or the release date.

The Expendables

These titles follow the convention of black screen titles with the text in capitals, however, instead of white text it is gold with certain words or letters standing out. This is effective as it catches the audiences attention. This trailer emphasises more on the actors than other trailers as their names along with shots of them are shown. This allows the audience to become associated with the characters. It sets the storyline of the film through the titles which is common of action films, this allows the audience to receive some indication of what the film is about. The actual title of the film is shown as a completely different title compared to the previous one, this is effective in making the title of the film stand out to the audience and to make them remember it. As is typical the last title of the trailer is the release date, this makes the audience remember the date. Our titles may be more like this in relation to the colours because our titles are main title might be more of an orange colour similar to this due to our title "Playing With Fire."
