Film diary entry four

We started from the beginning today with starting filming after creating a new storyboard:

We will start with the intro for the institution that we are going to use. We have chosen Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures as this is conventional for action films and many successful action films that we like are produced by Warner Bros.

We will have our first title appear on the screen. this will have a black background and white writing as this helps it to stand out and this is conventional of other action film trailers, such as 'Taken'. by using intertitles we can leave the audience with questions that they want answers to, this not only makes them want to see the film but they begin to put themselves in the position of the characters of the film and this makes them feel more involved and interested. Fade to black.

We will then have a close up of the little girl, this establishes the first character and this will be in the style of a home video, we feel this will look really interesting and will really grab the audience. Again it allows the audience to feel involved in the film as they may reflect on their own home videos. This will gradually build tension. music will be playing in the background. Fade to black.

The next intertitle will appear on screen. This will also be in white text on a black background. Music will continue to play in the background. Fade to black.

This will then return back to the home video style clips of the little girl. we will show her innocently playing with toys. Music continues. Fade to black.

We will then establish the father daughter relationship by having a clip of the dad teaching the little girl how to ride a bike. This will build further tension and suspense as the audience knows something bad is going to happen and this innocent scene makes the audience connect with the characters and this will make the next scenes feel more dramatic. Emotive music will continue to play, Fade to black.

We will have a close up of the little girl as this will allow the audience to see her happy and content expression. Music will still play, Fade to black.

More intertitles. Fade to black.

There will be a long shot of an empty swing and the music will gradually become louder to add to the dramatic effect. Fade to black.

There will be a long shot of the mum calling for her daughter next to the empty swing. Fade to black.

We will then have a close up of the mums worried face. By having a close up this means that the audience can clearly see how the mum feels and this will make it more emotive. She will be calling for Rebecca and asking where she is. Fade to black. The music will play quietly in the background to allow the audience to hear what the mum is saying.

More intertitles will appear on the screen. By asking the audience questions directly makes them feel more involved, this is conventional of action films. Fade to black.

We will then have a long shot of the man walking down stairs and a large building behind him. This will be filmed in London as it is conventional for action films to be set in large cities where it has the feeling that anything can happen. Its also very busy and will make it feel more dramatic and worrying that the little girl has gone missing. Fade to black.

We will then have a high angle shot of the man walking down the stairs, this makes him look more vulnerable. We will also make it look as though someone is spying on him by having the camera placed slightly out of view of the man, creating the illusion of someone hiding behind something. The music will continue to play and a voice over explain that the man won't get his daughter back until he conforms to what the bad guys are saying will also play in the background, this is conventional of other action trailers we have looked at. It also allows the audience to get a clearer idea of the films plot. Fade to black.

We will have a mid shot of the man walking down the stairs and this will allow the audience to see the busy city that hes in. Music will continue, Fade to black.

More intertitles will appear on the screen. Fade to black.

We will then have a shot of a car driving away. Car chases are conventional for action trailers. Music will continue, Fade to black.

We will have two shot of men having a fight, this conforms to conventions of action trailers. The music will continue and there will be a fade to black.

Over the shoulder shot of the men fighting. Music and fade to blacks continue.

We will have a shot of the wing mirror of a car, this will allow the audience to see the car chase and this conforms to other action trailers. Music continues and fade to black transitions.

We will have a close up of the gear stick. Music continues and fade to black.

We will have a shot of the man running and diving under a pole. We will not use a fade to black here as we want to show continuity in our trailer and the next shot will be of the man coming out the other side.

Music still playing and fade to blacks.

We will have a close up of the mans worried face, allows the audience to sympathise with him. We will use a low angle shot as this makes the man appear strong and this is conventional of action films for the man to be needed to come to the rescue and save the innocent/ weak female character.

We will have a two of men chasing each other. Music and fade to blacks to build tension.

We will have a close up of the speedometer of a car, this shows that there is a car chase which will grab the target audiences attention as it is an action film convention. Fade to black.

Summer 2013 will appear in bold text so the audience knows exactly when the film is out.

Our title of the film will then appear in bold writing so the audience remembers the name of our film. Music stops.

To add further tension and surprise the audience we will then have a short clip of the little girl calling for help. This will be a long shot to allow the audience to see she is alone and vulnerable. We will use a high angle shot to reinforce her vulnerability and will show her hands clearly tied up. This conforms to action films and the female characters are seen as weak and need help/rescuing from the male characters.

Close up of the little girls face to highlight her sadness, audience will be able to sympathise with her.

Our end titles will then appear on screen, again showing the name of the film and release date so the audience will remember it.
