Certificate of trailer

After analysing action trailers and the audience they attracted we have changed our mind to the certificate we want our film to be. We would rather have it rated a 12 as this is a common rating of all action films and although the biggest target audience of action films is in the age range of 15 - 24 there is still a small proportion of audience members aged 12 -14. Our trailer will consist of all the stereotypes of action films which keeps an audience watching a trailer as they expect to see them. This attracts more of a male dominated audience but by doing an action film we would expect to get a more male dominated audience than female.

Marekt Research Action questionnaire

We then did a questionnaire specifically on the genre of action. This is essential as we can ask them about certain stereotypes of action films which allows us to see which ones we should include in our trailer.

Question 1

What is your gender?

Male - 10        Female - 10

Question 2

How old are you?

12 – 15 - 3          16 -18  - 16         19+  - 1

Question 3

Do you like action films?

Yes - 18         No - 2

Question 4

How many action films have you watched in the last 6 months?

0 - 2       1 – 5 - 11          5 – 10  - 7        10 – 15+ - 0

Question 5

Do you go to the cinema to watch action films?

Yes  - 20         No - 0

Question 6

What is your favourite part of an action film?

Explosions - 5          Car chases - 4        fight scenes - 6         the sidekicks  - 5

Question 7

Does a trailer effect whether you see a film or not?

Yes  - 18                    No - 2

From the results of this questionnaire it is clear that a trailer affects a decision to see a film which indicates that we need to ensure that our trailer is effective and grabs the audience. The majority of the people we asked liked action films - which is a good sign - and there is a split between the favourite part of an action film with no part being significantly higher than others. This suggests that what makes a action film successful are the common stereotypes, this shows that we need to include these in our trailer. However, this may not be easy as our budget isn't high enough to recreate all these scenes although we can try in order to make our trailer conform to the genre as much as possible. All of the people we asked said that they would rather see an action film in the cinema which highlights how the special effects are a major selling point of an action film.

Market research - General Questionnaire

This is a general questionnaire on how people view films and their favourite genres. This will help us to develop our trailer ideas in order to attract a specific audience. We asked 20 people these questions and will do another questionnaire specifically on action which will hopefully be useful to helping us develop our ideas.
Question 1

What is your gender?

Male  - 10       Female - 10

Question 2

How old are you?

12 – 15  - 2      16 -18  - 15      19+ - 3

Question 3

What is your favourite genre?

Comedy  - 7        Action  - 6         Romance - 4         Horror - 3

Question 4

How often have you been to the cinema in the past month?

0   - 2      1 – 5   - 17          6-10 - 1

Question 5

How do you normally watch films?

Cinema  - 11       DVD - 5       Online  - 4       TV - 0

Question 6

How many films do you watch a month?

0 – 3 - 2             3 – 5  -12              5 -7  - 3        8+ - 2

Question 7

Does a trailer influence your decision to see a film?

Yes  - 18               No - 2

The results from this questionnaire show that action is the second favourite genre of films, although comedy is first it is still good to know that a lot of our target audience ( the majority of the questionnaire was from people aged 16 - 18) like action films. It is also interesting to see that a huge majority of people say that a trailer influences their decision to see a film indicating that we need to make our trailer effective.

Audience profiling

By looking at audience profiling of previous action films we will be able to see the gender and age these films targeted. By doing this we will be able to see the most popular target audience which will help us decide on our target audience and also the rating of our film.

Class key: AB - Upper - middle class
                  C1 - Lower middle class
                  C2 - Skilled working class
DE - Working - lower class

Audience profile for Taken

Taken was rated a 15 so targeted young adults, this is proven to be successful as the main audience of this film were aged 15 - 24 with 38% of the viewers. This age could be the majority of the audience because they are the age with a disposable income and have the time to go to the cinema. However, in close second with 37% was the age group 25 - 34 suggesting that this film targeted a younger audience as the percentage of viewers aged 35 - 44 is almost halved. The dominating gender of this film were male with 54% which is typical of action films, however there is almost a 50/50 split between both genders which is unusual for an action film. This suggests that Taken did something different in the film which engaged a female audience as well, this is something we could look into as we would like to target both genders for our film. The dominating class was C1 - the lower middle class, with the other 3 classes having an even split of 21% each.

Audience profile of Skyfall

Skyfall was rated a 12A however the majority of the audience was still aged 15 - 24 with 26% although 45+ also had 26%. This shows that this film targets a wide ranged audience, however there could be a majority in the 45+ aged range as this is the 23rd James Bond film with the first one being released in 1962, this demonstrates how the film attracts an older age as this audience would have grown up with these films. However the film still targets the range of 15 - 24 as they are still common target audiences of action films. Typically of action films Skyfall has a significantly larger male audience than female. The higher classes also seem to be the higher audience of this film, this could be due to the technology involved.

Audience profile for Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol was another action film rated a 12A, however the biggest percentage of viewer were aged 15 - 24 this is similar to the previous two action films which suggests that this should be our target audience. As is typical the second biggest age group was the 25 - 34 age group with the percentage slowly decreasing as the ages of the audience increase. This shows that the target audience of action films is between 15 and 34. As is also typical of action films males are the dominating gender with 62% of viewers being male. This has been the lowest female audience yet, this suggests that as the film does feature a lot of technology and gadgets that this doesn't appeal to a female audience. Similar to Taken the lower middle class dominate the audience with 41% of viewers coming from that specific class. As this seems to be the biggest perecentage of audience member for the films it suggests they have the most money and time to go to the cinema.

Audience profile for The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Rises was rated a 12A with its largest audience viewers being the ages 15 - 24 (36%) and 25 - 34 (21%) suggesting this should be the target audience to aim for. Males, again, dominate the gender of the audience, this demonstrates how action films specifically target males, this suggests that if we wanted a successful action film the audience to target would be male. The lower middle class, C1, also are the dominating class of the audience.

Institution research

20th Century Fox Film Corporation

Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation is one of the six major American film studios as of 2011. Located in the Century City area of Los Angeles, just west of Beverly Hills, the studio is a subsidiary of Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation. The company was founded in 1935.

The company has many subsidiaries: Fox searchlight pictures, Fox atomic, Fox interactive, 20th century fox home entertainment, Fox television studios, Blue sky studios, 20th century fox television and Fox star studios.

Some of Fox's most popular films are Avatar, Star Wars, Ice Age and Home Alone, however the company also produces famous TV shows such as The Simpsons and Family Guy. However, this company has also produced successful action films, for example Taken and - X Men. This could be a possible company for our action film, although the company does produce a wide variety of films, a big majority are family orientated films. Many of these films are also big budget films like Harry Potter as they bring in a wider range of audience so a bigger profit. Although action films are usually big budget films ours wouldn't be so we may choose a different institution instead of Fox.

Paramount Pictures

Paramount pictures corporation is an American film/distribution company. It is located at 5555 melrose avenue in Hollywood and it is the largest major film company which is still headquartered in Hollywood. Many successful films, TV shows and adverts have been filmed on the 64 acre plot. It was founded in 1912 and is currently owned by Viacom, it is America's oldest existing film studio and is ranked as one of the worlds top grossing film companies.

Paramount consists of different film labels, Paramount pictures, MTV films, Nickelodeon movies, Paramount vantage and Paramount Classics, it has also made distribution deals with marvel entertainment and dreamworks. The Company’s global business operations include Paramount Digital Entertainment, Paramount Famous Productions, Paramount Home Entertainment, Paramount Pictures International, Paramount Licensing Inc., Paramount Studio Group and Worldwide Television Distribution.

Paramount produces a wide variety of films ranging in different genres. They have produced Paranormal activity 1,2 and 3, Titanic, Super 8, Puss In Boots and Dreamgirls to name a few which highlights the range of films they produce. They have also produced many action films for example Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Transformers: Dark Of The Moon and Captain America: The First Avenger. Paramount pictures may be a good institution to use for our film as the company produces a lot of action films so the genre is associated with the company.

Universal Studios

Universal Studios (also known as Universal Pictures), is an American motion picture studio, owned by Comcast, and one of the six major movie studios. It is one of the longest-lived motion picture studios to be located outside of Hollywood, celebrating 100 years this year. It is a division of American media conglomerate NBC UniversalIts production studios are at 100 Universal City Plaza Drive in Universal City, California Distribution and other corporate offices are in New York City. Universal Studios is a Member of the Motion Picture Association Of America.

Universal studios is also part of Universal animation studios, working title films, Illumination entertainment, focus features and Universal parks and resorts which are not just tourist attractions but used for filming as well.

Some popular films produced by Universal Pictures are: The Mummy, Mamma Mia, Little Fockers, Bridesmaids and Despicable Me. The company produces a wide variety of genres, specifically for our trailer we would want to know what action films they have previously produced. Some of these are The Bourne Legacy and Fast and Furious, this would be a good company to use for our trailer as it is a very well known company and is regarded highly so would attract an audience as expectations of the film would be high.

Certificate research

A film which is rated a U (Universal) should be suitable for children aged 4 years and over, although it is impossible to predict what may upset a child, this should be suitable. This film should be offer reassuring counterbalances to any violence, threat or horror.
A PG film (Parental Guidance) is suitable for any age, and children aged 8 or over should be able to watch these films without an adult and not be affected by them. A film rated PG  should not include any sexual, racial references, however their may be short scenes of moderate violence, but only in context.

To watch these films the viewer has to be 12 years or over as there may be unsuitable content for younger children. 12A films only exist for the cinema where no children younger than 12 can see the film without an accompanying adult, for a 12 film nobody younger than 12 can buy or rent the DVD. In these films there may be moderate physical and psychological threat, sexual references and bad language, infrequently.

Nobody younger than 15 is allowed to see a 15 in the cinema or buy or rent a DVD rated 15. Drugs may be shown in the film, strong menace/threat is permitted, there may be strong violence and language, sexual activity may be portrayed and no themes are prohibited.

Nobody younger than 18 can see a film which is rated 18. These films will include explicit sexual scenes, violence and strong language. There is nothing which is usually prohibited in these films unless a scene promotes/glorifies a certain activity.

We would ideally want our trailer to be rated a '15' as being of the action genre it would include violent scenes which may only be suitable for viewers aged 15 and over. Our target audience would also be 15 - 25 so a '15' rating would be suitable.

Location ideas

For our trailer idea the locations we need are:
  • A house
  • An alleyway or a quiet car park
  • A room with a big table - preferably a round table
  • A large building in a busy city
  • A park
  • A large hall to be used as a court room
  • A long (quiet) corridor

For the house we have two possible locations, we have chosen these two as we can use them anytime we want too and they are easy to get to - this allows us to be more flexible in our filming. The first scene  of the trailer is also inside the house with a family around a table. This is possible in both houses, although the house on the right has more space and a larger table so would work better when filming. The house on the right also looks like a friendly family home, this is the message we want to get across to the audience as this will make them feel more sympathetic towards the family when their daughter is abducted.

This alley is next to Ellie's house so is also easy to use and allows our filming to be more flexible. Although we wanted to use this for a fight/chase scene and it is very thin for this purpose so for the actual fight we could use a car park so there is more space making it easier to film.

For the meeting in the trailer we want a room that looks like this, we hope to re create something like this in a school classroom.

For the scenes outside of the court we were thinking about going up to London to film as we need a building with big steps outside to achieve the scene we want. This is also a busy city so will make the shots seem more effective. We also thought that this would act as a selling point for the film as London is a big tourist attraction and big cities in films usually draw an audience in. The National Portrait Gallery (left) would be a good location for these shots as there are steps to the side and the building is old which is usually what court buildings look like. However, this location would probably be quite busy so we would have to think about the time and day that we went to film. Although St. Martin's palace (right) seems like the better location as it still has the steps that we need and the outside of the building is similar to the National Gallery, the road is also quieter making filming easily. Unfortunately, we would not be able to get access to St. Martins palace so the National Gallery would be the best option.

For the park scene we are going to use Ashtead park as it is easy for us to get too and we can lso use it anytime, however, we would also have to be careful what time we would film it is as we wouldn't want the park to be crowded especially as we plan to do the abduction scene at the park.

Costume ideas

The characters we are going to need for our trailer:
3 policemen
3 bad guys
A family (A mum, a dad - the protagonist and a daughter - whom gets abducted.)
Court members

The police

We want our policemen to look as realistic as possible, however, we would not be able to completely recreate outfits similar to the one the man is wearing on the left due to it being to expensive. To make the police outfits realistic we want the costumes to be as similar as possible to the one on the left, we would want the police characters to be dressed in black trousers, smart shirts and black shoes. Ideally we would also want ties and hats. For the props we could get fake guns and handcuffs and passports could be used as police identification.

The bad guys

We would like the bad guys to be dressed in casual clothing such as jeans and tops. Although, for some shots where they are carrying out acts of violence then balaclavas and dark clothing will be useful. Also, where we want them to seem intimidating leather jackets and black clothing would also be useful in order to conform to stereotypes of the bad characters in films.

The Mum

We want the mum to be dressed in everyday clothes in order to make her seem like a normal person in society and making her a more relatable character. We would also like her to be wearing colours like pink/purple as they suggest vulnerability.

The dad

The Dad is a lawyer so for our scenes in the trailer we want him to be dressed in a suit and use a briefcase as a prop. Although, he wouldn't necessarily be in a suit throughout our whole film it is the only costume we need for our trailer.

The daughter

We want the character of the daughter to be dressed in typical children clothes to make it as realistic as possible. We could also focus on colours such as pink and purple in order to promote her vulnerability.

Members of court

For the people who would be in the court scene we want them to look smart and presentable to make the scene look as realistic as possible. We would like the men to be in suits whilst the women could be in pencil skirts and shirts.

Storyboard

This is just a rough storyboard in which we start to think about our shots and the order of our trailer, we also start to think about the locations, costumes and characters we need. By analysing the action trailer we have been able to look at the structure, shots and scene commonly used in action trailers which will help ours to become more effective.

Analysis of Abduction trailer

Abduction begins with the film institution (Lionsgate) and loud fast paced music which immediately grabs the audiences attention. The first shot is a close up of the main character which allows the audience to know who the main character is and begin to know him. The first dialogue of the trailer is a narrative voice over of the main character saying 'sometimes I feel different' however this is contrasted with scenes of a typical teenagers life of school, parties and sports which raises many questions among the audience and encourages them to keep watching. However, this is quickly contrasted with a dramatic fade to black and the music stopping, this keeps the audiences attention, this is accompanied with the statement 'sometimes I feel like a stranger in my own life' this continues to leave the audiences questions unanswered so they are still encouraged to keep watching.

The questions are then answered as it is revealed that the main character is on a missing persons website, in this scene fade to black are used frequently for dramatic effect which engages the audience in the story. The lighting becomes darker as the tone becomes more sinister where they start to question who he is living with. As the plot has not been outlined to the audience they are intrigued and want to continue watching to find out more. There is then a scene where the FBI turn up and murder his 'parents', before they are murdered he is told to run by his dad, this increases the pace of the trailer and grips the audience. As the trailer progresses it becomes apparent that the main character is wanted for something but he doesn't know what and doesn't know who to trust. These scenes included advanced technology, car chases and fight scenes these are all genre indicators for action and are also used to grip the audience and get them interested in the trailer.

The director is then shown on a black title screen this breaks up the action and refocuses the audiences attention. A villains voice is then heard over the phone, he is foreign which is conforming to the stereotypes of action films and indicates to the audience that he is the villain. This is followed by Taylor Lautner's name, although he is the only actor shown in the trailer suggesting he is a strong selling point of the film for the younger audience. Towards the end of the trailer the non - diegetic music is accompanied by a series of scenes where the main character is attempted to be shot by many of the villains, this raises many questions among the audience - especially how is he escaping them everytime. The final title of the film is put together in an effective and memorable way, the word Abduction is formed out of a gun and put together to form the gun, this demonstrates to the audience that guns are an important part of this film as they feature a lot in the trailer. Unlike most action films the title of the film is not the last thing to be seen, following the title  there is an explosion, this ends the trailer on a dramatic note and reminds the audience of the action genre whilst also making them remember the film.

Analysis of Inception trailer

Inception is another action film which is rated a 12A, this suggests that our trailer should have this rating also as if most action films seem to have it then that should be the target audience to aim for. Inception has a similar advertising technique as The Dark Knight Rises as it is directed by Christopher Nolan as well so there will be fans of him as a director interested in Inception.

The trailer begins with a mid shot of what the audience assumes to be the main character in a room alone. This character is played by Leonardo DiCaprio who is a popular actor, this draws the audience in. The lighting also plays a significant role in this shot as the room is quite dark which indicates to the audience that the genre of this film is also mystery, this also engages the audience in the trailer. There is also a narrative voice over describing ideas and power and cities which draws the audience in as they want to know more about what is happening. The institutions are then shown, however they are shown in a different way where all 3 companies are shown in the same shot, this catches the audiences attention as the companies are not usually presented in this way.

There is then a scene of a city folding over, this is not realistic and as the narrative continues to talk about ideas in the human mind it suggests to the audience that this in his imagination. There is then an over the shoulder shot of a man looking out the window and rioting and fight scenes - stereotypical of the action genre. This is accompanied with the narrative of 'an idea can transform the world' this indicates to the audience the power of an idea and the effect this can have on people. This engages the audience as it is a relatable topic.

There are then black title screens which sell the film to the audience through naming the actors and director, the font is also simple which makes the names stand out more to the audience, it also makes them remember the names involved in the film. There are then a variety of scenes which seem to establish the villains of the film and there are brief fight scenes shown, the whole trailer appears very vague, this makes the audience continue watching and encourages them to go and see the film as they want their questions answered.

Fade to blacks are used throughout this trailer to create dramatic moments for the audience and to build tension, especially as it is not a particularly fast paced trailer. Close up shots of spinning tops and glasses of water engage the audience as they are so simple and seem so out of place within the action. The font in this film is effective, the words 'your mind is the scene of the crime' are shown to be in between building and are rotating this is effective as it not only attracts the audience to the words but it indicates to the audience that this plot focuses on the power of the mind. The final titles are presented in a memorable way as the shot gradually zooms out of the city and the words inception are formed out of the buildings. This is original and makes the name of the film be remembered in the audiences mind.

Analysis of The Dark Knight Rises trailer

The Dark Knight Rises is another action trailer rated a 12A. Similar to Skyfall and Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol it is not the first film this means that there is already a target audience of the film and this influences the content of the trailer as they have expectations as to what should be in the film.

The trailer begins with the production companies, these are well known (Warner Bros, Legendary, Syncopy) these indicate to the audience the scale of production involved with this film and raises their expectations. The trailer begins with a young boy singing the national anthem, this draws the audience in as it has nothing to do with the previous film or doesn't indicate the trailers genre, this leaves the audience confused but encouraged to keep watching. This continues over the next couple of scenes which adds a sinister tone to the trailer which engages the audience. This is where the audience gets their first view of Bane, it is only a mid shot but it has been long awaited and expectations from fans are high of the character. This is a major selling point of the trailer as the character had been kept so secretive in the marketing campaign. There is also an establishing shot of a city which re establishes the setting of the previous film.

The first black screen title is then shown which says From Christopher Nolan this encourages the audience to continue watching as it raises expectations of the film as he is highly regarded as the director from The Dark Knight. The plot then begins to develop as Cat woman is shown, this is also another selling point of the trailer as she is a character of interest for the audience. She explains how trouble is coming but is very vague and no explanation is given this is effective as it leaves the audience with many questions they want answering, The action then begins to pick up with Bane's henchmen shown in a series of long shots and close ups, this gives the trailer more of a dramatic edge and engages the audience.

The music then changes to the Bane chant which increases the sinister tone of the films but demonstrates how the trailer is going to become faster paced, this draws the audience in. There is then a scene of Bane walking towards the football pitch shown at the beginning and the football players are shown to be sucked into a hole on the pitch. This is effective as it is a shocking scene for the audience but a memorable one. Bane's voice is then heard for the first time which continues to draw the audience in.

As the trailer starts to finish the non - diegetic music becomes louder and more dramatic, there are more black title screens saying The Epic Conclusion to The Dark Knight Legend and then the title of the film The Dark Knight Rises. This breaks up the audience and retains the audiences attention whilst still providing some information about the film. In between these titles more stereotypical action shots are shown of fight scenes, explosions and technology, the last shot focuses on new vehicles this excites fans of the films as they want to find out more about them. Finally there is the gradual zoom of the CG animation of the bat symbol made out of the shape of buildings crumbling. This is a memorable way to present the logo and keeps the audiences attention right till the end.

In comparison to other action trailers it is similar in the way that it plays on the music to add tension and the trailing becomes increasing faster paced as it continues. The font is simple, which is common of action films, however it doesn't feature as many fade to blacks as most action films do, this could be because the music plays more of a part in adding tension to the trailer than editing would.

Analysis of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol trailer

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol is another action film which is rated a 12A, this has a similar target audience to Skyfall as it attracts a wide ranged audience. As it is the fourth Mission: Impossible film it already has a target audience to aim for as the fan base for the films as built up through the previous films.

The trailer begins with the institutions, one of these being Paramount, this immediately indicates to the audience that this audience has the potential to be successful as Paramount is a well know production company. The beginning of the film as a narrative voice over whilst scenes are shown of explosions and advanced technology  This are also shown with fade to blacks, by having the explosions at the beginning of the trailers it immediately draws the audience, the voice over which is serious also attracts the audience as they want to find out more.

There are then establishing shots of Washington shown which indicates to the audience that this could be one of the main locations of the film. By having a well known place in a trailer it also attracts an audience to the film just because of the location. The narrative continues outlining the problem the film is going to challenge, the fade to blacks continue until there is a shot of the present and the man providing the narrative is shown, this also shows acceptance of the mission  This draws the audience in as the plot has been outlined for them however no detail has been provided so there are many questions.

This is followed by a black screen title telling the audience of the film, it appears unexpected and keeps the audiences attention on the trailer. There are then two more title screens saying Re - think the impossible, this reinforces the title of the film and is accompanied by lots of different action shots and fade to blacks. There are a variety of shots, the majority being close ups which adds to the intensity of the trailer and keeps the audiences attention. The non - diegetic music is a song by Eminem featuring Pink called Won't Back Down, this is a selling point for the trailer as they are both well known artists, this further engages the audience in the trailer.

The part where Eminem raps increases the pace of the trailer, the stereotypical explosions, car chases and fight scenes are shown. However, it is effective as there are not so many fade to blacks and the action seems continuous and appears to match the music. This keeps the audiences attention and makes the remember the trailer, this encourages them to go and see it. Towards the end of the trailer the music stops and there are close ups of the main characters, this allows the audience to start to recognize  the characters and makes them want to know more about them. More dialogue is also shown, this appeals to the audience as it develops the plot and the characters and also shows there is some humor in the film, this encourages the audience to go and see the film.

Car chases are the most frequent stereotype portrayed in this trailer, although this is effective in increasing the pace of the film we would not be able to recreate as many as are shown in this trailer as the cars are expensive and the scenes would not be easy to recreate. However, this trailer differs to other trailer in the respect that the end of the trailer is not the fastest paced, it is the middle which contains all the action, this is effective in engaging the audience through the action scenes then keeping their attention to show them more of the characters and the actual storyline. Although action films usually attract both genders in this trailer the font is grey on a black screen and appears to be quite masculine suggesting the target audience is more males than females.

Analysis of Skyfall trailer

Skyfall is an action film, so by looking at the trailer we can look at what is effective which can help us with our trailer. It is rated a 12A so is attracting teenagers, however James Bond films are very popular among all ages.

The trailer begins fast paced, with loud dramatic music and with fight scenes and car chases, this immediately indicates to the audience the genre of this film. It also is effective in drawing the audience in as the loud music catches their attention. Fade to blacks are used which is typical of many action trailers as it makes the trailer seem more dramatic. The institutions are then shown which are Metro Goldwyn Mayer and Columbia, these are successful, well known production companies which further draws the audience in. In the first 50 seconds of the trailer we could recreate a similar effect as it doesn't feature all the stereotypical technology and gadgets, fade to blacks are still common and the music still continues loudly, this adds to the dramatic effect of the film further drawing the audience in.

As the trailer continues the plot develops as the outline of the film is introduced, this is only vague as it is in most trailers, this leaves the audience with lots of questions which they want answering which encourages them to go and see the film. Throughout the trailer slow paced clips are contrasted with fast paced clips in order to maintain the audience's attention and to keep them interested. Establishing shots are used throughout which are mainly of big cities, this is common of action films and something we could recreate in our trailer. Two shots are used to show to the audience who the main characters are, however not much is revealed about which leaves the audience with the option to go and see the film if the want to find out more. High and low angle shots are used, especially between the hero and the villain which establishes who has authority and makes the rivalry between the two characters more effective to the audience.

Towards the end of the trailer, the music becomes a lot louder this re gains the audiences attention and makes them continue watching. As is typical of most action films the end of the trailer becomes increasingly faster paced with frequent shots of car chases and explosions. This is effective as it shows the audience parts of the film without explaining how this happens which encourages the audience to go and see the film to find out. However, for our trailer we would not be able to have the explosions due to our low budget. The sounds of the gun shots are incorporated with fade to blacks, this is effective in the way that it changes the pace of the film through the sound and editing techniques which has a dramatic effect on the audience, we could recreate something similar in our trailer.

The trailer ends with a fade to black then a black title screen with the name of the film on, it gradually zooms in on the title which makes the audience remember the name of the film. This trailer is different in respect to the fact that this is the only title shown throughout the trailer apart from the production companies, this could be that the actors are well known for these films now so they do not need to be advertised, although it could be because by having no titles it keeps the audiences attention on the action.
