Analysis of Now is Good trailer

Now Is Good is about a girl dying of Leukemia and she composes a list of things she wants to do before she dies. The film is rated a 12A and is a drama, it's target audience is mainly females due to the story line being emotional. It already has an audience as Dakota Fanning is a well known actor so people would go to see the film as she is in it.

The trailer starts with the film production companies shown, one of these being Warner bros. which is a well known production company so attracts the audience. There is loud non - diegetic music whilst there are scenes of Tessa running down the road. There are then inter titles over the shots saying this is Tessa's life. This draws the audience in to the trailer as they don't actually know anything about this person called Tessa so the statement seems very vague. We then see two shots of her doing daring things, this raises questions among the audience as to why she is doing this, encouraging them to continue watching. There is then a fade to black where the fact there is a time limit on her life is explained, this changes the audiences mood as it makes the trailer seem more depressing and contrasts with the loud upbeat music previously used.

The music then changes to slower and more sentimental as there is a narrative voice over medical scenes, this makes the audience feel more emotionally linked to Tessa and they want to continue watching to find out what is going to happen to her. Tessa's love interest in then established which indicates that this is a film aimed more at a female audience rather than male as by having the issue of a terminal illness and falling in love it suggests it is quite an emotional film. These establishment's of Tessa's character is effective as it allows the audience to form an attachment to her through the short trailer, thus encouraging them to go and see the film.

Towards the end of the trailer as more events take place, Tessa's relationship develops further and there is even a shot of her acting violently making the audience sympathize with the character. The fact that she is coming to the end of her life is reinforced throughout the trailer which further indicates this is an emotional film. The target audience is also suggested through the font as it is blue and not particularly sophisticated suggesting its target audience is more teenagers than adults.
