Analysis of Abduction trailer
Abduction begins with the film institution (Lionsgate) and loud fast paced music which immediately grabs the audiences attention. The first shot is a close up of the main character which allows the audience to know who the main character is and begin to know him. The first dialogue of the trailer is a narrative voice over of the main character saying 'sometimes I feel different' however this is contrasted with scenes of a typical teenagers life of school, parties and sports which raises many questions among the audience and encourages them to keep watching. However, this is quickly contrasted with a dramatic fade to black and the music stopping, this keeps the audiences attention, this is accompanied with the statement 'sometimes I feel like a stranger in my own life' this continues to leave the audiences questions unanswered so they are still encouraged to keep watching.
The questions are then answered as it is revealed that the main character is on a missing persons website, in this scene fade to black are used frequently for dramatic effect which engages the audience in the story. The lighting becomes darker as the tone becomes more sinister where they start to question who he is living with. As the plot has not been outlined to the audience they are intrigued and want to continue watching to find out more. There is then a scene where the FBI turn up and murder his 'parents', before they are murdered he is told to run by his dad, this increases the pace of the trailer and grips the audience. As the trailer progresses it becomes apparent that the main character is wanted for something but he doesn't know what and doesn't know who to trust. These scenes included advanced technology, car chases and fight scenes these are all genre indicators for action and are also used to grip the audience and get them interested in the trailer.
The director is then shown on a black title screen this breaks up the action and refocuses the audiences attention. A villains voice is then heard over the phone, he is foreign which is conforming to the stereotypes of action films and indicates to the audience that he is the villain. This is followed by Taylor Lautner's name, although he is the only actor shown in the trailer suggesting he is a strong selling point of the film for the younger audience. Towards the end of the trailer the non - diegetic music is accompanied by a series of scenes where the main character is attempted to be shot by many of the villains, this raises many questions among the audience - especially how is he escaping them everytime. The final title of the film is put together in an effective and memorable way, the word Abduction is formed out of a gun and put together to form the gun, this demonstrates to the audience that guns are an important part of this film as they feature a lot in the trailer. Unlike most action films the title of the film is not the last thing to be seen, following the title there is an explosion, this ends the trailer on a dramatic note and reminds the audience of the action genre whilst also making them remember the film.
